    MEMPHIS, Tenn., February 28, 2022 – Leadership Memphis announced its Kate Gooch Leader of the Year, Distinguished Alumni of the Year, Community Champion, and their 2022 Change Makers today.     Leadership Memphis considers Change Makers to be rare and unique forces of positive change. These dynamic individuals come from various backgrounds and organizations but share a common passion for bettering the world around them. Each Change Maker’s work has enhanced the community, uplifted other people, and made Memphis a better place. This year’s Change Makers were part of a large pool of nominees submitted by the public, reviewed by a panel of judges, and 10 were selected to be 2022 honorees.

    In addition to the awards, Johnny Taylor, CEO of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), will be the Keynote Speaker of the 2022 Leadership Awards Luncheon. As CEO of SHRM, Taylor oversees an organization with 300,000 members across 165 countries and is charged with being a global leader on the future of employment, leadership, and workplace culture. Taylor will be speaking about resetting with your workplace team and employees during the COVID-19 pandemic.

    The Leadership Awards Luncheon will honor some of the Mid-South’s most impactful leaders during a virtual ceremony Friday, March 11 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The event is free and open to anyone who would like to attend.   • Leadership Memphis Seeks Nominations for 2022 Change Makers

    MEMPHIS, Tenn. – November 10, 2021 – Leadership Memphis is calling on the community to submit nominations for the 2022 Change Makers. Anyone can be nominated online using the Leadership Memphis website at https://www.inovativewebsolutions.agency/leadership/events/leadership-awards-luncheon-2022/. Nominations close at 5:00 p.m. on December 10, 2021.

    Leadership Memphis considers Change Makers to be rare and unique forces of positive change. These dynamic individuals come from various backgrounds and organizations but share a common passion for bettering the world around them. Each Change Makers’ work has enhanced the community, uplifted other people, and made Memphis a better place.

  • Leadership Memphis Announces 2022 Executive Program Members

    MEMPHIS, Tenn., September 22, 2021 – Leadership Memphis, whose mission is to prepare and mobilize leaders to work together for the good of the whole community, is proud to announce the Executive Program Class of 2022. The diverse group of 52 executives is comprised of experienced leaders across multiple community spectrums, including business, nonprofit, government, education, healthcare, faith, neighborhoods, and professionals.

    “We are thrilled to welcome the 2022 Executive Program and are excited to see how this class continues Leadership Memphis’ longstanding history of impacting Memphis in a positive way,” said Reggie Crenshaw, President and CEO of Leadership Memphis and Volunteer Memphis.

    Over nine months, Leadership Memphis Executive Program participants are immersed in an intensive experience aimed at building on existing personal and professional leadership skills to develop relationships and networks that drive and accelerate positive change. The program leads participants through monthly learning sessions, increases exposure to high-profile and effective leaders and organizations, and offers expanded engagement with the challenges facing Memphis today and opportunities for the Memphis of tomorrow. Class days will be a hybrid schedule featuring virtual lessons and in-person programming at locations across the city for the first time since 2019.

    “We believe the best way to get leaders involved in the community is to take them to the organizations or neighborhoods that need their help the most and let the class experience that for themselves,” added Crenshaw.

    Leadership Memphis’ goal is to connect its leaders with information about the developments and challenges facing the city and inspiring the class to work together and move Memphis forward. Class members will also participate in a 40-hour community service schedule over the program that will divide the class into groups that will work on public service projects in Memphis neighborhoods.

    Since 1979, Leadership Memphis has continually developed new ways to engage and create more effective community leaders. Its alumni represent a group of local leaders dedicated to understanding the strengths and challenges facing the Mid-South, exploring the importance of collaboration, and demonstrating the collective impact citizens can have on the community.

    Leadership Memphis has graduated more than 3,900 leaders through its programs over the last 42 years.   • Leadership Memphis Announces New Executive Team

    Leadership organization welcomes new CFO, Director of Development & Engagement, Director of Programs, and Event Coordinator

    MEMPHIS, Tenn., September 14, 2021 – Leadership Memphis, whose mission is to engage local leaders to impact Memphis in a positive way, announced today a new executive team to help lead the organization and continue its 42-year history of being a valuable resource and network for leaders in Memphis while preparing them to continue building upon the city’s rich leadership legacy. The new executives recently welcomed to Leadership Memphis include Donna Macri, Chief Financial Officer; Mario Hogue, Director of Development and Engagement; Kenya Johnson, Director of Programs; and DeNeia Whitted, Events Coordinator.

    “We are proud to welcome Donna Macri, Mario Hogue, Kenya Johnson, and DeNeia Whitted to the Leadership Memphis team,” said Reggie Crenshaw, President and CEO of Leadership Memphis and Volunteer Memphis. “Each of them brings a wealth of experience, innovative ideas, and a diversity of perspectives to their new roles that we know will benefit our organization and our community. We are excited to see how they contribute to the well-established history of Leadership Memphis leading the charge to make our city better.”

    As Chief Financial Officer, Donna Macri will be responsible for oversight of the finance for Leadership Memphis and Volunteer Memphis. Macri brings 16 years of experience as a CFO in the private sector to her new role. An operationally focused executive, Macri believes in improving performance through profit-driven analysis, practices, and business strategy. Macri has served in a diverse group of business verticals to include consumer packaged goods, manufacturing, distribution, and third-party logistics industries.

    Mario Hogue will serve as Director of Development and Engagement where he will be responsible for the organization’s fundraising efforts as well as Leadership Memphis alumni engagement. Over the last seven years, Hogue has led communications efforts for the third largest health system and the largest public school district in Arizona before most recently serving as Public Information Officer of the largest municipal school district in Shelby County. Throughout his career, Hogue is responsible for generating over four million dollars through federal, state, and local grants and a capital improvement campaign that utilized donor planning, engagement events, and digital call-to-action marketing tactics.

    As Director of Programs, Kenya Johnson will be responsible for the advancement of the Leadership Memphis mission through best-in-class programs, including the Executive and FastTrack classes. Johnson has over 15 years of business experience navigating complex employee and business matters while implementing cross-functional projects, creating strategies for process improvement, and solving challenging compliance issues. Johnson has extensive experience developing learning modules and planning and conducting training for organizations in industries ranging from legal and education to manufacturing and logistics. Skilled at facilitating team-building events, Johnson enjoys bringing diverse groups and ideas together. She demonstrates her passion for education and community involvement through her active volunteerism with Literacy Mid-South, Youth Villages, Shelby County Schools, The Works, Inc., Habitat for Humanity, and other community-based projects.

    In her new role as Event Coordinator, DeNeia Whitted will work closely with Leadership Memphis and Volunteer Memphis on planning and executing their alumni engagement events and volunteer days of service. Whitted founded her own event planning company, Events by Day, in 2004 and has produced many unique events from weddings, fashion shows, pageants, high-end celebrity social events, and galas and other nonprofit charity functions. Priding herself on succeeding in her professional life and in her personal life striving to be a good role model for her two daughters, Whitted is also the creator, executive producer, and co-host of her passion project the “Our HBCU Experience” Talk Show which allows her to shine a light on HBCU alumni that are thriving in business, art, and community.

  • Leadership Memphis Introduces 2022 Board Members

    MEMPHIS, Tenn., July 21, 2021 – Leadership Memphis announced a new board chair and changes to nearly half of its executive board as it welcomed its 2022 Board of Directors. The diverse group includes executives from some of Memphis’ largest corporations, local government, faith organizations, and nonprofits that represent dozens of communities across the Mid-South.

    “We are proud to welcome so many new faces to our board and we look forward to building on our organization’s more than 40-year history of engaging Memphis leaders and impacting our city in a positive way,” said Reggie Crenshaw, Leadership Memphis President and CEO.

    Shirley Ford, an alumnus of Leadership Memphis’ 2019 Executive Class, steps into her role as Board Chair after serving on the Leadership Memphis board for the last two years. Ford is currently the Chief Financial Officer for the City of Memphis and has more than 30 years of financial, accounting, and managerial experience.

    “I’ve seen firsthand the incredible work our alumni do to improve their communities and help our city,” said Ford, “I am excited to serve in my role as Board Chair, promote our alumni’s impact, and continue to help identify and educate the next generation of Memphis’ leaders.”

    As an organization that promotes the advancement of diversity, equity, and inclusion, Leadership Memphis prides itself on having a majority-minority board for the eighth straight year, as well as a female-majority board for the third time in the past six years.

The Volunteer Memphis Awards are a “thank you” to the 30,000 volunteers who give so tirelessly of themselves each year, as well as an opportunity to put a spotlight on many of the most passionate, dedicated, and caring individuals in the greater Memphis community.

  • MLK Days of Service 2022

    The MLK Days of Service, taking place January 14-17, 2022, empowers 2,000+ individuals, strengthens communities, bridges barriers, creates solutions to social problems, and moves us closer to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s vision of a beloved community through 100+ service projects.

    Multiple projects will include resources and engagement opportunities focused on education, empowerment, financial literacy, environmental stewardship, and mentorship.

    The goals of this service event are:

    • To engage Memphians in an educational workshop that will enlist Leadership Memphis Alums and the greater Memphis community to empower Mid-Southerners.
    • To engage Memphians in service that will see the impact and build the capacity of Mid-south nonprofits. These non-profits support the community and focus on solutions that address education, empowerment, economic development, and poverty.
  • Family Volunteer Day 2022

    Volunteer Memphis will support a one-day, citywide, educational event for caregivers on Monday, November 13, 2022. “Professional and Family” Caregivers will be provided with a self-care resource kit as well as participate in a virtual education panel discussion.

     

  • Make a Difference Week 2021

    Mark your calendar! Make a Difference Week 2021 will be taking place October 18-22, 2021. In partnership with local banks and other community and corporate partners, Volunteer Memphis would like to facilitate virtual financial literacy sessions for youth and young adults. The goal of this service initiative as it relates to our targeted age group: 

      • Increase access to financial professionals. 
      • Increase basic fiscal responsibility among our targeted age groups.
